Paddle Canada Lake Instructor Course

Where: Elk Island National Park, 30 minutes each of Edmonton (camping available)

Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Level I Skills Course

When: 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Saturday & Sunday, July 15 & 16, 2017
Where:  Astotin Lake, Elk Island National Park

Sea Kayak Level-1 Skills

Aim:

Level-1 provides the skill and knowledge necessary for day-long sea kayaking trips in sheltered waters (non-wilderness areas). Successful completion of Level-1 indicates competence to paddle a sea kayak within a sheltered bay in the company of one or more paddlers with Level-1 or greater skill and knowledge.

Prerequisites:

Paddle Canada Basic Kayak skills certification or equivalent skill and knowledge.

Typical Course Length:

2 days

Overview

Rescue skills:  Bow rescue, Unassisted re-entry, Assisted re-entry, Towing, Communication/signals

Paddling skills:  Forward stroke, Brace low/high, Sweep, Draw, Stern rudder, Edge control

Knowledge:  Equipment, Journeying and seamanship, Safety, Kayaking resources


Paddle Canada Moving Water Intermediate and Advanced Solo or Tandem Skills Course available

When: Group bookings available (minimum 2 people)
Where: Location Upper Red Deer or Highwood River
Cost: $425/person + $10 PC Upgrade Fee + GST
